چکیده

Here D ⊂ R is a bounded domain with Lipschitz boundary ΓD, E is the electric field, H is the magnetic field, x̂ = x/|x|, and n is the unit outer normal to ΓD. The applied current J and the initial conditions E0,H0 are assumed to be supported in the circle BR = {x ∈ R : |x| < R} for some R > 0. The electric permittivity ε and magnetic permeability μ are assumed to be positive constants. We remark that the results in this paper can be easily extended to solve scattering problems with other boundary conditions such as the impedance boundary condition on ΓD. One of the fundamental problems in the efficient simulation of the wave propagation is the reduction of the exterior problem which is defined in the unbounded domain to the problem in the bounded domain. The transparent boundary condition plays an important role in the construction of various approximate absorbing boundary conditions for the simulation of wave

Maxwell’s Equations in an Unbounded Structure

This paper is concerned with the mathematical analysis of the electromagnetic wave scattering by an unbounded dielectric medium, which is mounted on a perfectly conducting infinite plane. By introducing a transparent boundary condition on a plane surface confining the medium, the scattering problem is modeled as a boundary value problem of Maxwell’s equations. Based on a variational formulation...

Analysis of Transient Electromagentic Scattering from Three Dimensional Cavities

This paper is concerned with the mathematical analysis of the time-domain Maxwell equations in a three-dimensional cavity. An exact transparent boundary condition (TBC) is developed to reformulate the open cavity scattering problem in an unbounded domain equivalently into an initial-boundary value problem in a bounded domain. The well-posedness and stability are studied for the reduced problem....

The Leontovich Boundary Value Problem for the Time-harmonic Maxwell Equations

The limiting behavior of the unique solution to Maxwell's equations in an exterior domain with a Leontovich boundary condition as the impedance tends to zero is investigated. This is accomplished by reducing the impedance boundary value problem for the Maxwell equations to a system of three integral equations. It is shown that the Leontovich boundary condition leads to a singular perturbation p...

ON MAXWELL'S STRESS FUNCTIONS FOR SOLVING THREE DIMENSIONAL ELASTICITY PROBLEMS IN THE THEORY OF ELASTICITY

The governing equations of three dimensional elasticity problems include the six Beltrami-Michell stress compatibility equations, the three differential equations of equilibrium, and the six material constitutive relations; and these are usually solved subject to the boundary conditions. The system of fifteen differential equations is usually difficult to solve, and simplified methods are usual...

Kinetic Equations with Maxwell Boundary Condition

We prove global stability results of DiPerna-Lions renormalized solutions to the initial boundary value problem for kinetic equations. The (possibly nonlinear) boundary conditions are completely or partially diffuse, which include the so-called Maxwell boundary condition, and we prove that it is realized (it is not relaxed!). The techniques are illustrated with the Fokker-Planck-Boltzmann equat...
